Understanding the Pros & Cons will help you decide which reMarkable alternatives can be a better option for you

Pros

The Remarkable 2 paper tablet offers several positive aspects that make it an attractive choice for digital writing and note-taking:

Impressive Design: The Remarkable 2 excels in terms of hardware design, featuring a sleek and thin profile. Measuring just 4.7 millimeters in thickness its one of he thinnest E ink Tablet.

Writing Experience: The core functionality of the Remarkable 2 lies in its writing experience, which is where the device truly shines. The E Ink display provides a natural paper-like feel, making writing and drawing a delight.

The ReMarkable 2 has several  noteworthy constraints as well:

Lacks in Reading Features: This is the area where the device acks a lot, it doesn’t support a lot of formats, doesn’t have light sensors or backlit screen and large PDF lag sometimes.

Connectivity: The restricted Eco-system lacks connectivity. You have to transfer flies through its app. Furthermore it doesn’t have Bluetooth or OTG support.

Roundup for the Best replacement for reMarkable

Onyx Boox Note Air 2

Made by the Chinese electronics company Onyx, this e-ink tablet features a large 10.3-inch display, runs on Android, and offers access to millions of apps and games on the Google Play Store. Onyx Boox Note Air 2 is a productivity machine.

With a high-quality stylus and the ability to read and edit almost all documents forms it makes a great note taking device. It may feel a bit artificial to the feel when writing but the stylus is really responsive

When it comes to reading, the device has backlit screen, light and g sensor plus loads of reading apps on the Playstore. Make it more then just a note taking device.

Features like split-screen make it a great multitasking tool. Its almost as if you have a real android tablet with E Ink making it a great alternative for reMarkable who are looking for more than just a simple note taking device.

Key Takeaways

  • Note Air 2 Runs on Android 11
  • Access to the entire collection of books from Kindle, Nook, and Kobo libraries. The Libby app and Marvel Unlimited are also available for download.
  • Build in Speakers and a microphone for audiobooks and voice recording
  • All features that you would like in a E Ink Tablet

To be honest, nothing beats the Amazon Ecosystem when it comes to reading. This e-reader features a 10.2 inch e-ink display, adjustable lighting, and a high resolution screen that offers a crisp and clear reading experience.

If your are looking for a reMakable alternative for reading as priority one then Kindle Scribe is a good option. I feel the device lacks when it comes to Sketching UI but the Pen has the same hardware as that of reMarkable 2.

The screen has some grit to it but its nothin like a Pencil over paper, its more like a ballpoint over a gritty paper.  The gray scale and PPI makes drawings stand out on the Kindle Scribe. If they improve upon the Drawing UI that it will definitely be a great alternative for reMarkable 2.

Key Takeaways

  • Hardware for writing is same as the remarkable but it lacks in Drawing UI when it comes to layers, multiple pens and shade
  • The reading experience along with Amazon Ecosystem has no match when it comes to reading
  • The pen latency is really good but the writing does not feel like paper

I would say that the Supernote A5 X is like the in-between of the minimalist reMarkable 2 and the functional Onyx Boox Tab because it provides users with an ample amount of functions from android apps while keeping it simple.

With the ability to save and export your notes in a variety of formats, gel like smooth pen, and writing UI the Supernote A5 X is the perfect tool for Writing.  It may not be the best E Ink Tablet for Pro Sketchers but for doodlers like me it sure has a great gel like drawing feel. It lacks tilt function which can be a problem if you are looking for a device that is great for pencil sketching.

When it comes to reading, Supernote supports Kindle and recently there are rumors of a Playstore as well. If that is the case Supernote will give reMarkable 2 a tough time.

Key Takeaways

  • The Note Taking UI is Great. Handwriting recognition is brilliant you can convert handwritten notes into text and export them
  • Fantastic writing experience with smooth pen strokes similar to a gel pen
  • The pen has a hard ceramic pen tips that do not need replacement.

QuirkLogic Papyr is designed to provide a more efficient and natural way of taking notes, brainstorming ideas, and collaborating with others. This A4 E ink Tablet fully integrates into Inkworks by QuirkLogic Platform enabling real-time collaboration with a paper-like writing experience.

The Papyr is designed to have synergy with other devices. If all of the devices are connected to the same WIFI network or share the same Cloud account, whatever is written on the whiteboard will automatically appear on the other device (Papyr, android or iOS apps).

A bigger screen gives more real estate for writing. Its a great replacement for reMarkable 2 if you want a larger screen

Key Takeaways

  • Real-time collaboration from any location, enabling multiple users to work on the same project simultaneously.
  • Writing experience is fine but no hand writing recognition
  • The device has plastic screen so has no reflection and is durable
  • The downside being that it does not support third-party apps

Boox Tab X is another great E ink tablet of Onyx. The BOOX Tab Ultra’s user experience is designed so that it mimic a powerful tablet, that you can use in your daily life. It runs on Android 11 and can literally do almost all things that a tablet can do. The only thing stopping you will be the the significantly lower screen refresh of E Ink screen in comparison to a normal tablet.

It comes with a camera as well which can be used as a scanner. Its more like an office companion for people looking to enhance there productivity.

If you want something with loads of features and gives a decent experience when it comes to writing then you can consider this E ink Tablet as a good alternative to reMarkable

Key Takeaways

  • The stylus provides a decent writing experience with good writing recognition
  • The pencil feature is not great but the pen feature covers up for that
  • Suited more for note taking then sketching
