  • Great E-Ink Display: The 300 PPI e-ink display with front lit screen offers sharp text and illustrations, suitable for various reading materials.
  • Manga and Article Experience: Offers unique features like rapid page turn engine for manga and different viewing modes for graphic novels. Presents magazines and newspapers in an e-book format for a streamlined reading experience.
  • Audio Book Support: Supports Audible audiobooks via Bluetooth pairing with headphones.
  • Decent Battery Life: Offers long-lasting battery life, lasting up to six weeks on a full charge for extensive reading sessions.
  • Essential Features and Functionality: Offers a familiar user interface and access to essential Kindle functionalities like X-Ray and translation.
  • Lack of Premium Features: Does not include features like auto-brightness or color temperature adjustment present in higher-priced models.
  • Limited Glow Light Settings: Lack of warm light settings for nighttime reading might be uncomfortable for some users.
  • No Physical Page-Turning Buttons: Lack of physical buttons may inconvenience users accustomed to them for page-turning.
  • No Power Adapter Included: The box doesn’t contain a power adapter, requiring users to source their own for direct wall charging.

The Kindle 2022 impresses with its compact and lightweight design. Its smaller 6-inch screen makes it more portable compared to its pricier counterparts like the Paperwhite and Oasis.

While it lacks physical page-turning buttons, it’s comfortable to hold and use, with basic Kindle design elements. At launch, it arrives in two distinct colors: classic black and stylish blue denim.

Notably, this Kindle release is marked by a more environmentally conscious approach. It incorporates 75% post-consumer recycled plastics in the black variant, 30% in the denim color, and an impressive 90% recycled magnesium in the electrical components.

Kindle Basic 2022 Display

Featuring a 6-inch e-ink display with a resolution of 300 pixels per inch, the Kindle 2022 delivers crisp text and illustrations, suitable for reading books and even graphic novels. The matte finish helps reduce glare, making it easy to read outdoors.

The front-lit display with four LEDs provides even brightness but lacks auto-brightness and a night light feature, making nighttime reading a bit uncomfortable.

The Kindle’s glow light, while lacking warm light settings, offers a powerful illumination without any significant spilling. The LEDs, integrated into the device’s gel layer, ensure an evenly distributed light, providing a comfortable reading experience even in darker environments.

User Interface: Upon exploring the user interface, it’s evident that there are no groundbreaking changes. The interface remains familiar to existing Kindle users. Updates tend to align with the latest Kindle model’s appearance, ensuring consistency across devices.

The UI provides access to essential functionalities such as airplane mode, Bluetooth settings, sync options, and dark mode, which transforms the interface into a darker color scheme.

Navigation through pages is primarily accomplished by tapping the sides of the screen, without the additional “quick turn” feature found in some other Kindle models.

Kindle Basic 2022 Display

The Kindle 2022’s user interface is straightforward, offering access to recently read books, suggestions, and the library. The library view allows filtering between personal and family books, with the option to access the Kindle store directly for more book purchases.

With 16GB of internal storage, it offers ample space for storing thousands of books and some audiobooks, though larger files like graphic novels consume more space.

Manga Experience: Unlike standard e-books, the all-new Kindle offers a unique rapid page turn engine for manga. This feature allows users to guide their finger’s pace for navigating through manga pages. With this functionality, readers can swiftly maneuver through pages or slow down for a more detailed perusal.

Graphic Novels: Distinct from manga, graphic novels, and comic books offer a varied interaction. The Kindle enables readers to choose between different viewing modes, such as guided view or panel view. While tapping cells in graphic novels won’t result in page turns, the Kindle provides a customized experience with the ability to zoom in and out of panels.

Magazines and Newspapers: When it comes to magazines and newspapers, the Kindle offers an article-based reading mode. Instead of replicating the entire magazine layout, articles are presented in an e-book format.

Audio Books: While the Kindle 2022 lacks a built-in speaker, it supports Bluetooth for easy pairing with headphones. Connecting is a straightforward process, allowing users to enjoy Audible audiobooks directly through their headphones.

Kindle Basic 2022 Reading
Kindle Basic 2022 Reading

Amazon estimates up to six weeks of reading time on a full charge. In my experience, I’ve gotten around 17 to 18 hours of reading time, though usage conditions, like screen brightness and font size, greatly affect this. It’s capable of lasting a full week with moderate daily use, and its USB Type-C charging port ensures easy recharging, a feature I particularly appreciate.

The Kindle provides access to features such as X-Ray, a tool that provides detailed information about characters, terms, and images within a book. It also enables translation, facilitating the breakdown of language barriers by allowing users to translate text instantly, albeit requiring an internet connection for functionality.

In terms of price, the Basic Kindle is one of the cheapest E Readers that you can buy in the market right now and with the Ads supported variant the price can be even cheaper.

Whats in the box? The all-new Kindle 2022 comes in a compact box that includes the Kindle itself, a quick start guide, and a USB Type-C charging cable. Unfortunately, there’s no power adapter included, so you’ll need to provide your own if you want to charge it directly from a wall socket.

The Kindle 2022, boasts a compact form factor, affordability, and essential Kindle features. While lacking some premium features like auto-brightness and color temperature adjustment found in pricier models, these are not deal-breakers for the budget-conscious reader.
