What is Ad supported Kindle & How To Remove Ads (Easy Fix)

Here we’ll explore the nuanced differences between ad-free Kindles and ad-supported Kindles, which are often referred to as Kindles with special offers. These distinctions go beyond just price points; they can significantly impact your reading experience. So, let’s embark on this journey of discovery.

What is ad supported kindle paperwhite

Kindle PaperWhite with Ads

When you choose a Kindle you are given the option for an Ad-Free or an Ad-Supported Kindle. The price difference does not seem much but the experience can vary a lot depending upon how frequently you use your kindle.

In ad-supported Kindle, the sleep screen or stand by presents you with a choice – you’ll either encounter an advertisement that might pique your interest or a book cover related to your current read.

For those who keep their Kindle in airplane mode with Wi-Fi turned off for extended periods, a subtle shift occurs. Instead of displaying a book advertisement, the device may eventually present you with a generic advertisement when you wake it up from its digital slumber.

How annoying are the ads on kindle paperwhite?

The level of annoyance of these ads varies. If you are a book work who reads a lot every day these ads can be quite annoying.

One common gripe with ad-supported Kindles is their tendency to display advertisements for genres unrelated to your reading preferences and mostly they are romantics titles.

Even if you’re not a fan of romance titles, they might make an appearance on your sleep screen. I am not a big fan of the romantic genre and the ad seem quite absurd to look at.

Ad-Supported Kindles Vs Ad Free Kindle

To kick things off, it’s crucial to understand that ad-supported Kindles are a budget-friendly option, costing 20% less than their ad-free counterparts. However, this cost-saving feature comes with a trade-off: advertisements or optional book covers displayed on the sleep screen when your Kindle is in standby mode.

On Ad-supported Kindles you need to swipe the screen to unlock the device when you turn it on. This additional step can be seen as either a minor inconvenience or an acceptable trade-off for the reduced cost, depending on your perspective.

Older Kindles displayed ads at the bottom of the screen, both on the home screen and in the library view. However, with the introduction of newer software, these ads have been phased out from everywhere except the sleep screen.

Whereas an Ad Free Kindle though a bit more expensive does not have any kind of promotional ads on the screen saver or the home screen.

Instead of advertisements, you have the option to display the book cover of the book being read on the stand by or sleep screen, or you can turn this feature completely  off and view random screensaver images
