Oasis is notorious for having a terrible battery. But is the battery issue so bad that you shouldn’t opt for it? Or can the issue be avoided or you can slow down its fast draining battery? Here we will discuss about Kindle Oasis Battery, What causes it to drain so fat and how can we resolve the issue.
Battery Life on Kindle Oasis
Under ideal circumstances, the Kindle Oasis offers exceptional battery life, However, it has been observed that after some time mostly after a year the battery health gets depleted significantly. I don’t know the exact time frame but usually within 12-18 months people often complain that the Oasis is only lasting 3-4 weeks and then you start hearing that some people are only getting 5-7 days for a charge. This is what Amazon says about its battery.
“A single charge lasts up to six (6) weeks, based on a half hour of reading per day with wireless and Bluetooth off and the light setting at 13. Battery life will vary based on light settings, wireless usage. Audible audiobook streaming over Bluetooth will reduce battery life”
Here is what I experienced with a new Kindle Oasis
- I charged the Kindle Oasis fully. Read for approx. 35 mins with low backlights
- The battery went down till 94%, that’s a drop of 6%
- With an average reading of 40-50 mins per day you will get approx. 2 weeks of reading time
Though not as great as a Kindle Paperwhite the time is quite reasonable. The most recent Paperwhite gets about 4 weeks longer battery life over the Oasis when both are new and out of the box.
I suspect maybe the form factor limits the size of the battery. The battery is quite small in comparison to the screen size and the processor.
Why is Kindle Oasis Battery Draining so Fast
Various factors can influence battery performance especially in the longer run. Screen brightness settings, wireless connectivity, and the types of content being read all play a role in determining how long your battery will last between charges. Improving the battery life:
Library Indexing: If this issue occurred suddenly, the main reason for battery drainage can be indexing of the library. Typically indexing ends pretty quickly and the battery doesn’t drain that much, but occasionally it will get stuck infinitely indexing.
The only thing that will stop the power drain is doing a quick restart. Once, it boots back up the battery drain is gone in this situation.
Screen Brightness: Screen brightness can be a major factor of fast draining battery. I like very bright screens but the battery timing improves drastically if the brightness is reduced from 20 to lets say 5. Your average can double only by doing this.
Reduce screen brightness and use external light sources.
Higher Processor Oasis has a lot of LED more that the Kindle Paperhwhite, and it has faster processor and higher refresh rate, A faster refresh rate means more load on the battery consequently lesser batter time.
Go to setting > Reading Option > Refresh Rate and Change the refresh rate.
But try to have it on airplane mode as much as possible, try to have it as dark as possible (I never tried dark mode, actually), bluetooth off.
Calibrate the battery:
- Charge it to full, and keep charging for two more hours.
- Use the device until the battery is completely empty and the device turns off. Do not connect it to a charger until the battery is empty.
- Charge it to full.
Update Software: Ensure your Kindle Oasis is running the latest firmware version to benefit from performance optimizations and bug fixes that could help mitigate battery drain issues.
Manage Wireless Usage: Disable Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity when not needed to prevent unnecessary power consumption. You can also switch to airplane mode during extended reading sessions to conserve battery life.
